BROUGHTON GATE, MILTON KEYNES
We aspire to the creation of a new community based on an urban extension to the new city. We aim to ensure that the scheme is at the forefront of contemporary urban design and meets all the principles of sustainable developments set out in recent Government guidance. Indeed the location and timing of this scheme will provide the platform to create an exemplar project setting the agenda for the “new Milton Keynes”.
This 54 hectare site adjoins English Partnerships own urban village initiative and Gallagher is working closely with them to join up the two proposals to deliver a comprehensive scheme in excess of 2,000 new homes and mixed uses including a range of community facilities. The scheme is designed on sustainable development principles.
In 2002 Gallagher and its partner Taylor Woodrow Homes conducted a major community consultation workshop involving a wide range of stakeholders and local organisations. From the feedback and results of this event a scheme Master Plan has been developed which forms the basis of the planning application for the site. This was submitted to the Council in September 2003 and is currently being passed through statutory procedures and is expected to commence in early 2005.
