BATHGATE, WEST LOTHIAN
Our aspiration has been to create a new urban community for Bathgate called Wester Inch. This brownfield site became symbolic of urban decline in Scotland when the former Rover Truck assembly plant, which stood here, became derelict in the 1980's with major job losses. The site stood derelict for two decades.
Working closely with West Lothian Council, we then commenced land assembly, remediation, community planning and master planning to deliver a sustainable new community which functions as an urban extension to the town. This comprehensive new development will involve the provision of over 2,000 homes together with new employment opportunities to help revitalise the local economy. The scheme also incorporates a wide range of community, leisure and play facilities as well as neighbourhood shopping services.
Planning consent was granted on the scheme in 2002. Gallagher working with local development parties commenced work on the scheme in 2003 and the first phases of development will shortly welcome its first occupants.
